Praia da Duquesa beach Cascais

If you're looking for a gorgeous sandy beach in Cascais near Lisbon, Praia da Duquesa couldn't be more perfect. The sand is white and soft and the water is tranquil and an impossible shade of sparkling literally looks like something out of a post card! It's quiet enough, even on a Saturday in June, to find yourself a spot close to the sea but still has lots of facilities on the beach cream, beers, pizzas....all the essentials!

Best of all, it's easy to reach from Lisbon by train or by car. It's 40 minutes from Lisbon's Cais do Sodre station and costs just €4,30. The train pulls up right next to the beach, so you don't even need to walk too far on the other side with your bucket and spade to find it.

If you're driving, it also takes around 40 mins and will cost a similar amount to park. Luckily there is a car park right in front of the beach, so you don't need to worry about finding parking. Remember when you're driving you will have to pay a toll, but its less than a euro each way to Cascais.

If we had known in advance, we could have arranged a dive with the beach side dive school, but I didn't have my PADI card, which sucks! It's been nearly two years since I've been diving and I'd really love to go again. Hopefully when we visit Croatia next month we can give it a go.

We had to settle for a little less extreme sport with a game of bat and ball, purchased from one of the beach side shops in desperation. Would definitely recommend you buy one at a cheap shop in Lisbon beforehand - Cascais the town is a bit of a tourist trap very much aimed at English speakers, with prices to match.

If you're looking for an escape from busy Lisbon, it's so easy to head to Cascais and spend a chilled day at the beach. For this reason, Lisbon holds rank with two of my other favourite cities, Valencia and Barcelona, for being amazing cities on the beach. Can't wait to tell you more about Lisbon itself! Do you have any other beach recommendations for near Lisbon?
