New York

I'm well aware that its nearly 6 weeks since we've been back from New York and I'm still slowly adding posts about the trip. Must be more organized in future. Posts I want to do are queuing up so this is the last one, I promise.

On our last day, we were hoping to hire bikes and ride around central park...maybe stop and sniff the flowers, see a few squirrels. Given that the park was actually covered with a crunchy layer of snow and ice though, we settled for a brisk walk and a million wintery photo opportunities.

If you're a Gossip Girl fan, these are the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain arches where Chuck and Blair get married...

And even if you're not, you can still appreciate the beautiful colours, particularly on a day like that day, where everything had taken on a pristine shade of white.

Another important area of the park is Strawberry Fields, the famous mosaiced memorial to John Lennon on the West Side of the park, a beautiful tribute to the late singer.

Central Park was beautiful and I definitely want o return at a time where it's not possible to sledge across the lake and feel the grass under my feet. However, after about an hour we were starting to freeze over, so headed to the New York Library for a much needed warm up.

I've wanted to come here ever since that Day After Tomorrow Film where they come here to shelter from the ravishing cold and start burning books in the huge fireplace in the Rose Reading room. Luckily things didn't quite reach that point for us, but we still appreciated the welcoming candle lined atrium all the same.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the Rose Reading room as it is currently closed for renovation but the photo exhibitions held in the ground floor rooms still make it worth a visit.

...aaaand that's it for New York! We did actually also visit the 9/11 memorial but I didn't feel comfortable taking photos. It was breathtaking, and one of the most moving memorials I have ever seen. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the designers have really got it perfectly right; it's definitely a must-do thing for even the shortest trip to New York.

Thank you so much for having us Crystal! We love you!
